How do you learn the Alexander Technique?

You learn the Alexander Technique through one-to-one lessons with me at my home in Bacup.

I am a fully qualified teaching member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (MSTAT) and have completed a 3 year full time training course approved by the Society. I am fully insured and have agreed to adhere to the Society’s published Code of Conduct.

Lessons are normally taught on a one-to-one basis and last for 1 hour.

Using gentle hands-on guidance and simple verbal instructions, I will guide you through everyday movements such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, using stairs etc.

As you start to become more aware of your own tensions we can apply the principles of the Technqiue to help you rediscover a much freer way of moving; reducing muscular tension and discomfort and freeing up your joints. With the aid of a mini skeleton, you can also see and understand how our major joints work and to be clear about how these are used in movement. People are often surprised at their lack of awareness even if they did Biology at school!

If you have hobbies or specific interests we can apply the principles of the Alexander Technique to those too. People find that, even though they may have come to improve something specific, often physical, they are amazed at how the Alexander Technique improves every aspect of their selves.

You learn that you have the choice, not only physically to use ourselves better, but also to improve the way you respond to everything that life throws at you, on every level.

“You get away from all your old preconceived ideas because you are getting away from your old habits.” F M ALEXANDER
